A Bar Mitzvah is the celebration of a boy’s transgression into manhood. It is Jewish practice to throw a party for the newly turned “man”. Parents are ready to give in everything they’ve got just to prepare for this occasion. The Bar Mitzvah is a sacred passage towards adulthood that parents celebrate in honor of tradition and their son.
Bat Mitzvah, just like the Bar Mitzvah, is a celebration of a child’s “becoming”. However, the Bat Mitzvah is the celebration of a girl’s transgression into womanhood. A girl becoming a woman is not something parents, especially fathers, are most thrilled about. Nevertheless, in Jewish belief, it is celebrated to give honor to their daughters.
The Mitzvah tradition may have continued, but the celebration of this life event is completely different from what was. Due to the changing times, an ancient tradition is now celebrated in a manner that will match the modern generation.
Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are now full size themed parties with special activities for children. Some Mitzvahs are even celebrated through concerts and dance parties.
